Bishop RUCYAHANA'S speech on the inauguration ceremony of the Saint John The Baptist Cathedral on 25th July 2004

In the words of Bishop RUCYAHANA making his speech , He warmly welcomed the President of the Republic H.E Paul Kagame and other government officials , he welcomed all bishops of the Episcopal Church of Rwanda, other church leaders and Non Government organisations who were present and requested the congregation to loudly greet the invited guests in the mighty name of Jesus with a big "Haleluyaah." Furthermore,he thanked God for the wondrous things that the Lord did particulary in Ruhengeri and in the whole country at large. He thanked the Almighty God who made it possible for the Cathedral to be what it is today and announced it's name to the Congregation " SAINT JOHN THE BAPTIST'S CATHEDRAL" and added that it is attributed to all Christians trough their thanksgiving. Saint John the Baptist's Cathedral is among the best Cathedrals within east and central Africa built by nationals(Rwandese).
Bishop RUCYAHANA testified that,he had had a dream of building the Lord's temple , and added that his dream came true and the promises of God were fullfilled.

The Bishop said that the Cathedral was built in a special way due to 2 reasons:

  • The first one is to prove that we "Rwandans" are able of doing great things
  • To treasure and respect Christians. People should worship the Lord from clean environment and better places

The Bishop went ahead and expressed his thanks again for whatever the Lord enabled the church to achieve. He said that the new generations should inherit good things from us and will lift up what is left behind for them. He shortly testified and said: "After I accepted Jesus ,I had a vision and that vision is that we constructed each his own hut and when I entered mine it became a church and I found myself standing in the middle of the church. So I got out called my 2 friends and asked them to help me build another hut biside the church. By then,I was in refugee camp in exile but I really thank God that,it has taken place while I am in my own country." My wife and my students are the witnesses of my testimony because they are the ones to whom I revealed my dream. He went on and said: " We are very grateful for God's love because on this day we are inaugurating our Temple with new hearts and attitudes. Whoever receives Jesus renews his way and is characterised with good fruits. During this crusade 1270 people confessed and repented their sins . Many other people's relationships with God was strengthened."Even myself I feel more encouraged". Bishop thanked God also because the Temple's construction went together with the construction of Ruhengeri's community: During the construction of our Cathedral , we employed 400 workers for a period of 2 years, regard less of where they are and where they come from. We gave workers advice on creating small income generating projects and taught them to save their money for future needs after the construction period. Bishop finally noted that the cost in the construction of the Cathedral was worth 167,428,200 rwandan francs and appreciated christians of Shyira Diocese over their great efforts towards the building of Saint John The Baptist's Cathedral. He also thanked 2 great friends from USA : Mr and Mrs Drayton Nabers and the family of Mr and Mrs Ireland for their great support, he once again thanked other wellwishers who contributed towards the Cathedral .
